A Study on the Wild Rhododendron micranthum for Landscape Plant Use (2)

Abstract
This study was carried out to investigate the photosynthesis and the respiration rates with various light intensity and temperature, and chlorophyll content of the wild Rhododendron micranthum for being used as cultivating data. This study has been designed with Rhododendron schlippenbachii, Rhododendron lateritium, Rhododendron mucronulatum, Nerium indicum.
The results obtained are as follows:
1. The light saturation points/the maximum rates of net photosynthesis of Nerium indicum were 800/12.9, and Rhododendron micranthum, R, schlippenbachii and R. lateritium were 700/10.3, 400/9.5, and 600¥ìEm^(-2)Sec^(-1)/9.0mg dm^(-2)hr^(-1), respectively.
2. The light saturation points and the maximum rates of net photosynthesis of the R. micranthum were 500/6.0, 200/8.4, and 400¥ìEm^(-2)Sec^(-1)/9.5mg dm^(-2)hr^(-1) in seedling, flowering, post-flowering stage, respectively. The light saturation points of the seedling plants were estimated the highest value, but the maximum rates of net photosynthesis of the plants after flower were estimated the highest value.
3. The light saturation points and the maximum rates of net photosynthesis of the seedling R. micranthum and the flowering plants were estimated the highest value at 15¡É, and the lowest value at 25¡É, but the plants after flower did not showed various values at the different temperature.
4. The wild Rhododendron micranthum were richer in chlorophyll content than the other plants and contained a higher proportion of chlorophyll b relative to chlorophyll a.
It was suggested that wild Rhododendron micranthunz be used as a shade plant with other Rhododendron plants.
